Arizona gas prices drop below national average, but it's far from the cheapest state
Phoenix, Arizona: The national average for a gallon of gas rose by three cents to $3.54, despite Hurricane Beryl hitting Texas, record July 4th car travel, and oil prices above $80 per barrel.
AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross noted that Beryl caused limited damage to Gulf Coast energy facilities. Surprisingly, gasoline demand fell slightly from 9.42 million barrels per day (b/d) to 9.39 million b/d, even with 60 million travelers for the holiday.
Total domestic gasoline stocks dropped from 231.7 million barrels to 229.7 million, while production averaged 10.3 million barrels daily. The national average price is $3.54, up 10 cents from last month and equal to last year’s price.
Gas was cheaper in Arizona than the national average. Flagstaff was the most expensive recorded city at $3.69 per gallon of unleaded gas followed by Coconino County which averaged $3.68 per gallon. The city of Yuma was the cheapest at $3.38 per gallon of unleaded gas. Pima County was the cheapest gas for any county in the state, at $3.45 per gallon of unleaded gas.
