Chandler, Arizona: Chandler was on edge yesterday after police received a call about a possible explosive device inside a residence in the 700 block of North Tangerine Drive. The call prompted the evacuation of nearby homes.

Sergeant Ricky Gonzalez, with the Chandler Police Department's Media Relations Unit, told 12News that around 6pm the police received a call "from a third party" reporting that a male inside the residence might have an explosive device or related materials," said Gonzalez. .

Upon arrival, Chandler police officers established a perimeter around the house and began evacuating residents on the affected street, as well as some adjacent homes.

"Our first and foremost priority is to protect life," Gonzalez said. "Given the nature of the report, we started the evacuation process immediately to ensure everyone's safety."

The Mesa Bomb Squad and Chandler SWAT team were called to the scene due to the potential threat. The suspect, who was the only person inside the residence, eventually surrendered to the authorities without incident. Despite the arrest, the Mesa Bomb Squad remained on-site to thoroughly search the residence.

Gonzalez estimated that at least a dozen houses on the street were affected, along with additional residences in the surrounding cul-de-sac area.

As of now, no explosive devices have been confirmed, but authorities are proceeding with caution. The investigation is ongoing, and residents are urged to stay informed through official channels for updates on when they can safely return.
