Chris Van Hollen's El Salvador trip descends into farce as Patty Morin's tears drown bumbling Dems

Washington D.C.: Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen is facing backlash after traveling to El Salvador in an attempt to 'free' deported illegal and alleged MS-13 gang member Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the "Maryland man" that has widened the gaping rift between Republicans and Democrats over deportations of illegal immigrants.
The Democrat's mission, however, was thwarted after El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele refused to allow the Senator to meet or speak with Garcia.

Garcia, who entered the US illegally in 2011, was granted protection from deportation to El Salvador in 2019 after claiming gang members were targeting him. However, a judge ruled he could still be deported to another country. The Trump administration recently admitted Garcia was mistakenly sent to El Salvador but insists he is an MS-13 gang member who poses a danger to Americans.
Van Hollen’s mission to bring Garcia back has drawn fierce criticism, particularly from Republicans and victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin — a Maryland woman raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant — condemned Van Hollen for prioritizing Garcia over American victims. "He did not call our family, he did not give condolences," Morin told Fox News. "There was no action from the Democratic Party in any way."

The Department of Homeland Security also slammed Van Hollen, accusing him of advocating for a "brutal MS-13 gang member" while ignoring victims like Rachel Morin. Meanwhile, former Border Czar Tom Homan called the trip "disgusting", arguing Garcia is a dangerous criminal who was rightfully deported.
Despite the backlash, Van Hollen insists Garcia was "illegally abducted" and deserves to return to his family in Maryland.

Garcia was arrested in a 2019 gang sweep linked to a murder investigation. Police reports state he was found with known MS-13 members, wearing gang insignia, and carrying $1,000 in cash. A confidential informant confirmed his active gang membership.
Garcia’s wife (a US citizen) accused him of assault twice — in 2020 and 2021 — claiming he punched her, ripped her clothes, and left her bleeding. Protective orders were issued, though she later skipped court hearings.
