Donald Trump rushes to Joe Biden's defense as 'second-rate' George Clooney slams Democrats

Los Angeles: President Donald Trump has hit out at actor George Clooney, calling him a "second-rate movie star" and a "failed political pundit" after Clooney criticized the Biden administration during an appearance on 60 Minutes on Saturday.
Clooney, 63, who is making his Broadway debut as journalist Edward R. Murrow in the stage version of his hit film 'Good Night and Good Luck', used the platform to discuss his decision to withdraw support for President Joe Biden.

In a June 2024 op-ed for The New York Times, Clooney urged Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee, citing concerns about his health and leadership.
Trump mocked Clooney on Truth Social, accusing him of abandoning Biden "like a dog" after initially supporting him and later pushing for Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Trump claimed was also unfit for the role.

Clooney defended his op-ed, stating he was "raised to tell the truth" and felt compelled to speak out after witnessing Biden’s apparent decline at a Hollywood fundraiser. While he expressed continued respect for Biden, Clooney criticized the Democratic Party for what he called "cowardice" in addressing Biden’s condition.
He also drew parallels between the McCarthyism of the 1950s and modern-day attacks on Press freedom, accusing the Trump administration of using government power to intimidate journalists. Clooney highlighted lawsuits against major news networks, including ABC and CBS, as examples of efforts to undermine the media.
