Gilbert PD opens new comms center as crime projected to drop below 2019 levels
Gilbert, Arizona: The Gilbert Police Department has opened its new taken significant steps to enhance the public safety needs of our community with its new state-of-the-art Communications Center. The two-phase expansion project, which began construction in January 2023, has doubled the Communication Center’s size and equipped dispatchers with cutting-edge technology. In 2023, Gilbert PD dispatchers fielded more than 227,000 calls.
Phase 1 of the expansion added a new dispatch floor and 19 dispatch consoles featuring Next Generation 9-1-1 technology, upgraded radio dispatch consoles, and the latest in AV management systems.
Phase 2 focused on employee well-being, including the addition of new amenities such as a fitness room, a parents’ room as part of Gilbert’s 'Baby At Work' program, a quiet room for decompression, training consoles for new staff, offices, and meeting rooms.
"Our dispatchers are committed to serving all of our residents, visitors, and Gilbert PD around the clock,” said Gilbert Police Communications Manager Kim Weber. “The expansion of the dispatch center ensures we give them the latest technology to provide the highest level of service. More importantly, the new dispatch center ensures we invest in their health and wellness so that they can be at their best when taking care of others."
