Los Angeles: Hollywood icon Jon Voight is spearheading an effort to revitalize the American film industry as one of Donald Trump’s newly appointed "special ambassadors" to Hollywood. The Oscar-winning actor, alongside Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone, has been tasked with bringing major productions back to Los Angeles through a mix of tax incentives and infrastructure improvements.

A longtime Trump supporter, Voight was awarded the National Medal of Arts during the president’s first term. Now, he and producer Steven Paul are finalizing a proposal to present to Trump as early as next week. Their plan goes beyond criticizing "woke" content — instead focusing on federal tax breaks to make Hollywood more competitive globally. "We need to compete with what’s going on around the world," Paul told Bloomberg, emphasizing the need for incentives to keep productions in the US.

Key proposals include expanding tax deductions for studios beyond the current $15 million cap and rewarding companies that invest in new filming infrastructure. The group has studied successful models like New Jersey’s 40% rebate for Netflix, which built a massive studio there. Paul has already moved three of his own productions back to Los Angeles, signaling his commitment to the cause.

Trump announced the trio’s roles in January, calling them his "eyes and ears" in a "very troubled" Hollywood. Stallone introduced Trump at Mar-a-Lago post-election, while Gibson publicly endorsed him, criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris.

The LA film industry has struggled with rising costs, competition from other states, and pandemic setbacks. Production in the region fell 5% last year, and box office revenue dipped to $8.7 billion.
