Phoenix, Arizona: During a recent campaign event in Arizona, former President Bill Clinton, supporting Senate candidate Reuben Gallego, described Kari Lake, a Trump-endorsed Senate candidate, as "physically attractive".

The comment led to a hilarious, if cutting, retort from Lake, sparking conversation in an already heated campaign. "Aren't I a bit old for you?" she joked, referencing Clinton’s past controversies.

Before a rally with former President Donald Trump in Tempe, Lake responded with a light-hearted retort, displaying both humor and wit. "First, as a middle-aged woman, I’m flattered. I don’t get those kinds of compliments every day," she said, clearly amused. She then quipped, "I thought I was a little too old for him. Doesn’t he like interns?"

Clinton had made his remarks while addressing a crowd in Phoenix alongside Kamala Harris, referring to Lake as “physically attractive” while casting her as a “performance artist” in politics. The comment, which many saw as tone-deaf, elicited responses from Lake's team, with senior adviser Colton Duncan adding, “When we heard Bill was in town, we thought we’d have to protect our interns—not our candidate!”

Clinton reminisced about his past success in Arizona, noting that he turned the state blue during his 1996 re-election campaign.

Lake, 55, previously gained recognition as a Phoenix-area news anchor before her 2022 gubernatorial run, where she lost narrowly but gained substantial support among Trump loyalists. Now, with her Senate campaign against Marine veteran and Congress member Reuben Gallego, Lake is working to appeal to a broader audience.

Polling shows a close race, with Gallego slightly ahead at around 50 percent compared to Lake's 43 percent. With Arizona’s Senate seat in play, previously won by Democrat-turned-Independent Kyrsten Sinema, this race is drawing national attention and is key for both parties as they head into a crucial election year.
