Maricopa County weather update: Calm weather to continue as temperatures 'manageable'
Phoenix, Arizona: This past weekend, the weather remained mostly calm, and this trend is expected to continue into the early part of the new week. The monsoon ridge, currently in a weakened state, has shifted eastward into the Texas region. This positioning will result in drier conditions for most of western Arizona, with storm chances mainly limited to southeastern Arizona.
The lower atmospheric heights in the region will help keep daily high temperatures in a more manageable range of 105°F to 108°F across the lower desert areas, including the Phoenix Valley.
Today, the forecast calls for mainly sunny skies, though there will be some haze due to smoke from forest fires. Temperatures are expected to rise to around 105°F to 108°F. Winds will be variable, generally between 5-15 mph, with some localized stronger gusts possible into the evening and overnight hours. Storm activity will likely be confined to southeastern Arizona, with a possibility of dusty and gusty outflows moving northwest into the County later tonight. There's also a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the far southern or eastern zones.
Looking ahead, early morning clouds will give way to clear and sunny skies, with persistent haze. Daytime highs will again reach the 105°F to 108°F range around the Valley. Winds will remain light, with localized afternoon and evening gusts around 10-20 mph. Minimal storm activity is expected tomorrow, primarily around Gila Bend or the far eastern zones.
In the latter half of the workweek, temperatures are expected to gradually increase, with daily highs potentially reaching around 110°F. There will also be a slow increase in daily storm chances as the monsoon ridge is forecasted to strengthen and shift northward into the Four Corners region.
