Maricopa County weather update: It's hot, and it's going to keep being hot!
Phoenix, Arizona: There is no respite from the sweltering heat for residents across Maricopa County with the heatwave expected to last well into next week, with temperatures above seasonal averages.
Meteorologists are warning that the extreme heat, driven by a persistent ridge of high pressure, will continue through the weekend and beyond, with temperatures expected to reach 113°F on Friday and possibly climbing even higher by Saturday.
In the valley, highs are already sitting at 108°F, 13 degrees above average for this time of year, with the heat showing no signs of easing. The First Alert Weather team has extended their heat warnings through Sunday, and possibly into early next week, as the temperatures are predicted to hold steady.
Areas in northern Arizona, typically cooler, aren't escaping the heat either. Sedona is expected to hit the 90s, and even Flagstaff will see highs in the 80s, well above normal for the higher elevation areas.
