Marjorie Taylor Greene puts the GOP on notice as threat of MAGA breakaway increases

Washington D.C.: Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has claimed that the Republican establishment—not President Donald Trump—is the problem, warning that the GOP base is deeply dissatisfied with Washington’s direction.
In a scathing social media post on Friday, Greene vented frustrations over key issues but clarified Monday in an interview with Steve Bannon that her criticism was aimed at party leaders, not Trump.
“There is no wedge between the base and President Trump. The wedge is between Congress and the establishment Republicans that are undermining the president’s agenda,” Greene said. She argued that voters in November had rejected both Democratic policies and “old Republican Party ways", instead endorsing Trump’s “America First” platform, including opposition to foreign wars and prioritizing domestic interests.

Greene accused Washington of being “tone deaf", claiming the GOP failed to heed grassroots demands during Trump’s first term. She also criticized conservative media, including Fox News, for initially resisting Trump before reluctantly backing him. Emphasizing her credibility with the base, Greene noted she won election without Trump’s endorsement, saying, “I’m here because I genuinely believe and I’m fighting for what I believe in.”
Her initial post had condemned potential US military action against Iran, invoking the Iraq War as a cautionary tale. She also came out against a US-Ukraine minerals deal, questioning why America doesn’t mine its own resources instead. Additionally, Greene blasted COVID-19 vaccines, transgender policies, and slow election reforms, warning that losing her support signals losing the base.
“When you are losing MTG, you are losing the base,” she warned. “And Trump isn’t on the ballot in the future, so do the math on that.”
