Phoenix, Arizona: Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is offering free DA2PP vaccines during its Paws for Prevention event through December 30.

Beginning December 2, MCACC will be offering appointments Monday through Friday from 10.30am to 11.30am at its West shelter (holidays excluded).

Appointments are limited to two dogs per household and dogs must be at least one year of age. Registration is required ahead of time, and dogs will have the opportunity to receive a free microchip along with the vaccine, should they need one.

“After seeing how successful our Mission Microchip event has been and how much affordable pet care services are needed in the valley, we knew this would be another great opportunity for the community,” said Communications Supervisor, Kim Powell. “We know firsthand how valuable the DA2PP vaccine is, and we’re so happy to be able to offer them to community pets in the valley with the generous help of national nonprofit Petco Love.”

The DA2PP vaccine is crucial in protecting canines from potentially deadly diseases such as distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and parainfluenza. Every dog is given a DA2PP vaccine upon arriving at MCACC, as well as boosters while they wait for adoption.

“It is heartbreaking when any pet suffers or dies from a disease that could have been prevented. It is further exacerbated when unvaccinated pets come into busy shelter kennels, where these deadly diseases can spread quickly, resulting in multiple deaths, skyrocketing expenses, and hindering saving pet lives,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love President.

“By creating greater awareness and making this crucial preventative care more accessible to pets not currently receiving these lifesaving vaccines, we can prevent the dangerous spread of disease.”
