Washington D.C.: Fox News reporter Peter Doocy's joke about the Trump administration’s accidental inclusion of a journalist in a confidential Signal group chat discussing military operations has sparked rumors that the veteran White House correspondent has soured on the second Trump administration.

The embarassment, revealed by The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, exposed sensitive communications among top officials, including National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Vice President Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Goldberg, stunned to find himself in the chat, wrote that he had "never heard of [a principals-committee meeting] being convened over a commercial messaging app". The messages reportedly included operational details, such as imminent strikes in Yemen, and even named an undercover CIA officer — information Goldberg withheld for security reasons.

Doocy joked on Fox & Friends: "They did promise to be the most transparent White House ever," prompting his co-host father to retort, "I don’t think that’s what they meant." Waltz claimed no prior contact with Goldberg and insisted Signal was authorized for government use.

Trump dismissed the report, calling Goldberg a "total sleazebag" and The Atlantic a "failing magazine". He defended Waltz, blaming an aide for the error, and asserted the Yemen strike’s success proved the leak "couldn’t have been very effective". Hegseth denied Goldberg’s access to classified material, labeling him a "deceitful" journalist.
