Phoenix breaks heat record in sweltering June, but brace for July
Phoenix, Arizona: The National Weather Service has made it official: June was the hottest on record in Phoenix. The average temperature in June was 97F, up 1.3F from the previous record of 95.3 in 2021.
The hottest month ever recorded in Phoenix was July 2020. During this month, the city experienced an average temperature of 99.1°F. The extreme heat included numerous days with temperatures above 110°F.
Sky Harbor Airport recorded 14 days at 110F or above last month. The average days at 110F or above for the entire year is 21.
July could see temperatures reach 115F, with night temperatures reaching 106F.
“If we have a more active thunderstorm pattern that carries over into July, that means that you’re going to have more cloud cover, more moisture in the atmosphere, and your temperatures don’t heat up as much,” meteorologist Gabriel Lojero with the National Weather Service said.
