Queen Creek's own Dawn Oliphant appointed to Arizona Municipal Tax Code Commission
Queen Creek, Arizona: Queen Creek Council Member Dawn Oliphant has been appointed by Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs to serve as a representative on the Arizona Municipal Tax Code Commission.
The Municipal Tax Code Commission consists of nine mayors and council members of cities or towns that have adopted the Model City Tax Code. Of these individuals, five are appointed by the Governor.
“I am so honored to be serving on the Arizona Municipal Tax Code Commission and representing the Town of Queen Creek at the state level,” said Council Member Dawn Oliphant. “This Commission is important as it allows for our local municipalities to propose changes to the Model City Tax Code.”
The Commission is created through State Statue and considers important business related to the Model City Tax Code. They also develop an annual report for the state legislature.
What is the Model City Tax Code?
The Model City Tax Code (MCTC) is a standardized tax code adopted by municipalities in Arizona to regulate the collection of local Transaction Privilege Taxes (TPT), which are similar to sales taxes. The MCTC provides a uniform framework to simplify tax administration and compliance for businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions within the state. The adoption of the Model City Tax Code by municipalities aims to reduce complexity, enhance transparency, and facilitate compliance for businesses, thereby promoting economic growth and efficient tax administration.
