Booming Carefree finally gets the security boost it needs
Carefree, Arizona: Maricopa County officials have approved an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between the county and the town of Carefree for law enforcement services. The amendment, which was passed during a recent board meeting, strengthens the ongoing collaboration between the town and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
This updated agreement will officially take effect on October 1, 2024. The most notable addition is the assignment of a full-time deputy to the town of Carefree for a full year, addressing the town's growing need for consistent law enforcement. Supplemental traffic enforcement measures are also included, along with a new provision that allows for optional additional personnel to respond to high-priority situations when necessary.
The board acknowledged the growing year-round activity in Carefree, which has evolved beyond a seasonal town to become a bustling part of Maricopa County’s District 2.
"I want to extend my gratitude to the Sheriff's Office, which remains stretched thin across our county," said the chairperson. "Mayor [John] Crane has been a strong advocate for ensuring that the town has a dedicated presence from the Sheriff's Office year-round."
