Tempe Tardeada set to provide some afternoon delight to Hispanic Heritage celebration
Tempe, Arizona: Tempe's Hispanic heritage will be celbrated at the 26th annual Tempe Tardeada on Sunday, October 6, from noon to 8pm at the Tempe Community Complex, 3500 S. Rural Road.
There will be traditional dances, singing and mariachis, not to mention arts and crafts, tortilla-making demonstrations and face painting.
Also, two $1,000 Tardeada Scholarships will be presented to two high school seniors. The winners will be notified in late September, and will be presented with their scholarship at the Tardeada festival. Winners must be available to attend the festival for the presentation and to accept their check. Five finalists will be selected to be interviewed by the Tardeada Scholarship Selection Committee in September. You can apply here.
So what is a Tardeada?
A tardeada is a festival that takes place on a Sunday afternoon, a traditional time for many Hispanic families to come together.
"This festival recognizes the Hispanic people who came here and where the barrios were where ASU stands today. These were all farmers who lived here," said Normalicia Blanco, whose family has helped organize the event.
