The Great Horse Escape: Glendale heroes leap into action to save excited equine
Glendale, Arizona: A bizarre and slightly hair-raising scene unfolded on Monday morning in Glendale after a horse escaped its pen and went on a rampage before finally being coralled by a group of people.
Matthew Arnold, a volunteer at Saving Paws Rescue Arizona, told Fox10 that he was on his morning walk -- around 8am -- when he saw the horse break through a fence and bolt. According to Arnold, the presence of two fire engines earlier had spooked the horse that started running down the road after its great escape. Arnold immediately alerted the horse's owner while another person called 911. The horse had a piece of metal attached to it and the worry was that it would do istelf serious injury.
Arnold pursued the horse in his truck and finally cornered it at a shopping center parking lot at the intersection of 43rd and Union Hills. The job of catching the horse was made all the more difficult as a helicopter circled overhead. But caught it finally was, and Arnold and a few other people offered it water and attempted to calm it down. It was then led back to its home around 9.45am after an almost two-hour ordeal.
It was indeed fortunate that no one was injured and although the horse did suffer minor injuries it was going to be just fine.
