Mesa, Arizona: To some, public libraries are quaint, almost a relic from the pre-digital age. Spaces of much shushing, shelves and shelves of dusty books, an indecipherable Dewey Decimal system, and a librarian who, more often than, would haunt you well into middle age. But you know what, they're still here. They may be relics, but they hark to an age of reason, knowledge, and untold journeys into dreamscapes that last lifetimes. So this summer, spend a small portion of your time supporting your local public libraries. And there's a reward for doing so too!

From June 1 this summer Maricopa County started rewarding readers with a host of prizes that you can win by gaining points every time you check out a book, or attend a library event (don't worry there's no pop quiz for each book you check out).

Help the Mesa Public library grow, take a survey

Mesa Public Library has launched its Master Planning Process. The 20-year plan hopes to shape a future that embraces innovation, community, and transformative library services. MPL wants you to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions about the library services. You can complete the survey here.

Buy a book, they're on sale!

Mesa Public Library will be hosting a massive book sale in the Saguro Room at the main library. The sale will be on from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20. Books for sale include fiction, romance, science fiction, youth and children’s books. There will also be nonfiction books, including business/finance, religion, self-help, history, art, cookbooks, coffee table books and more. Books are priced starting as low as 50 cents, and all proceeds will support library programs, improvements and services.

Train to be a fiber optic technician

Mesa Public Library is hosting a four-week hybrid course through Baltu Technologies that will provide skills training for those seeking careers in fiber optics. Graduates will receive interview opportunities with leading industry employers. You can register here.

The online portion of the course opens Monday, July 8, and closes on Friday, August 2. Mandatory in-person lab sessions are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8 pm in THINKspot at the main library. This program is sponsored by a grant from Arizona State University and Jobs for the Future.
