Phoenix, Arizona (Release): Arizona Science Center has a whole host of events lined up this July, each designed to stimulate the innovative and curious spirit of young and older minds alike. Here's a selection of the highlights.
Camp Innovation
When: Upto July 26
Timings: 9am–4pm
Age: Grades 1-6
Cost: Members: $295, non-members: $325
Camp Innovation is back this summer with all-new themes. Campers in grades 1-6 are invited to let their imaginations run wild during the 5-day STEM camps. From hands-on science experiments to fun field trips, each week is jam-packed with high-energy, engaging experiences. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for all camp sessions. Science of Animation
When: Saturday, July 20
Timings: 1pm–4pm
Cost: Students: $5, adults: $10
Arizona Science Center is hosting an engaging Q+A panel followed by hands-on workshops to uncover the science behind some favorite animated films, shorts and TV series. One can explore drawing and digital painting, 3D modeling, and basics of animation workshops to bring art to life with the help of local animation experts. Register here.
OceanXperience
When: Upto September 2
Timings: 10.30am–4pm
Cost: Included in general admission
Visit an interactive replica of OceanXplorer, the most advanced research and filmmaking vessel in the world. OceanXperience gives visitors access to OceanX’s renowned OceanXplorer vessel and the cutting-edge science, technology, and media the ship uses to explore the ocean and bring it back to the world. Embark on a journey aboard the ship to uncover the ocean’s secrets and learn how to connect people with this precious resource. Conduct experiments like OceanXplorer scientists and experience the thrill of exploring some of the oceans’ most remote locations.
Frankenstein Lab
When: July 22-26
Timings: 9am–4pm
Age: Grades 7-12
Cost: Members: $295, non-members: $325
Arizona Science Center’s week-long, full-day Frankenstein Lab, will see teens in grades 7-12 build automatons, moving mechanical devices, in teams using the tools and machines available at CREATE at Arizona Science Center, from 3D printers and laser cutters to woodworking tools. They will also gain valuable life skills— from exploring the components of building a budget and time management to learning team communication skills. On the final day of the Lab, each team will bring their creations to life. The most innovative team will win exciting prizes. Lunch will be provided. Register here.
Bad Art Night
When: Friday, July 19
Timings: 5pm–8pm.
Cost: Groups of any size: $50, individuals: $25
Makers of all ages and backgrounds can connect at an evening full of "amazingly atrocious" art. Straight lines, complimentary colors and perfect proportions aren’t welcome—just bring your lack of talent, an abundance of absurdity and your sense of humor. All supplies will be provided. Register here.
