Trump goes back to Fox News Recruitment Agency for top D.C. post

Washington D.C.: Donald Trump has selected Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as the interim US attorney for Washington, D.C., after his initial pick, Ed Martin, faced Senate confirmation hurdles.
Trump praised Pirro’s legal credentials while also highlighting her role as co-host of The Five, one of Fox’s highest-rated shows.
This move follows Trump’s withdrawal of another Fox personality, Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, as his nominee for surgeon general. Meanwhile, Martin—whose brief tenure included sending threatening letters to scientific journals over alleged bias—was rewarded with three new Justice Department roles.
He will now lead a "weaponization" working group, serve as associate deputy attorney general, and oversee the pardon office. Trump vowed that Martin would investigate the "weaponization of government under the Biden regime".
Jeanine Pirro, 74, began her career as a prosecutor in Westchester County, New York, where she gained prominence as a tough, media-savvy district attorney. She was elected Westchester County District Attorney in 1993, becoming the first woman to hold that position. She developed a reputation for focusing on domestic violence, crimes against the elderly, and sex crimes.

She also served as a judge in Westchester County Court before becoming district attorney. In 2006, Pirro ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate against Hillary Clinton and briefly ran for New York Attorney General the same year.
Pirro became widely known to national audiences through her work on Fox News, where she hosted the weekend show 'Justice with Judge Jeanine' from 2011 to 2022. In 2022, Pirro joined Fox News’ 'The Five' as a co-host.
Pirro has drawn criticism for spreading conspiracy theories, including claims related to election fraud and attacks on political opponents. In 2019, Fox News briefly suspended her after comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s hijab and whether it aligned with the US Constitution.
