Weather report July 1: Hot and dry, but your 4th of July party just started sizzling
Phoenix, Arizona (Release): The upcoming 4th of July holiday week will see a reduction in daily storm activity along with warming temperatures as the monsoon goes on another break.
The weakening of high pressure over Texas will weaken and dip south as a trough enters the Western US early this week. Resulting southwesterly flow over Arizona will act to dry out the atmosphere and lend to the reduction in storm activity, especially by the 4th of July holiday. Otherwise, daily temperatures will hover in the low 100s today before getting a boost back into the 110F-112F range through mid-week.
For today plan on lingering morning cloudiness before sunnier conditions into the afternoon hours. Daytime temperatures will remain limited to the 103˚F-105˚F range around the Valley. Variable winds will generally hover in the 5-10mph range with localized gustier conditions (20-30mph) possible this evening from any storm outflows.
Storm chances will resume this afternoon across the higher terrain areas east of the Valley and likely to the SW of Phoenix (ie Gila Bend). Activity will try and expand northeast into portions of the Valley and surrounding lower deserts into this evening but will need the help of outflow boundary collisions. Any stronger storms that do form will be capable of gusty winds, blowing dust, and brief heavy downpours. Conditions will be monitored the remainder of the day and additional updates/statements will be issued if necessary.
For tomorrow plan on continued warming and drying conditions across the region. Afternoon temperatures will warm into the 108˚F-111˚F range around the Valley. Storm chances will generally remain limited to higher terrain areas north/east of the Valley and across southeastern AZ, though one can’t rule out gusty outflows moving up from Pinal county during the evening hours.
Heading into mid-week plan on additional warming and an end to storm chances around the County just in time for the 4th of July Holiday.
