Who is Jade Carey's coach? Phoenix gymnast battled the odds to qualify for vault finals at Paris Olympics
Paris, France: Arizonian and Team USA gymnast Jade Carey battled through an illness to qualify for the vault finals at the Paris Olympics on Sunday. Unfortunately, Carey will not be able to defend her Olympic title on the Floor after she fell and failed to qualify for the finals.
Later in the day Carey took to X to reveal the reason behind her struggles on the Floor: “I haven’t been feeling the best the past few days but I gave it everything I had today,” Carey wrote. It was reported that she had been unable to eat and lacked energy.
Carey's coach, who is also her father, was ill as well and unable to attend the day's proceedings. "Coach Brian Carey is not feeling well today and will miss Women’s Podium Training. He will return to the team soon," the USA Gymnastics said on X.
Brian has been coaching the 24-year-old Jade since 2017. After graduating from Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Jade began college at the Ohio State University in 2023, Brian followed as Assistant Coach for gymnastics. Brian also owns Carey On Gymnastics in Phoenix, Arizona.
Jade's parents divorced when she was young, but have an amicable relationship and Jade spent a large part of her formative years in shared custody between her dad and mother Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg.
