Fort McCoy commander is suspended after bizarre photo 'scandal'

Fort McCoy, Wisconsin: A senior Army commander at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin has been suspended after failing to "display photos" of former President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on the base’s chain-of-command board.
The omission sparked controversy and led to an investigation, resulting in the suspension of Colonel Sheyla Baez Ramirez, the garrison commander responsible for the base’s daily operations.

The incident came to light after a social media post showed blank frames where the photos should have been. While speculation arose that the omissions were deliberate, no confirmation was provided. Major General Patrick J. Reinert, Fort McCoy’s senior commander, suspended Ramirez but stated the action was “not related to any misconduct". The Army Reserve initially claimed the board had been vandalized, though Ramirez was not implicated.

This marks the second high-profile disciplinary action over alleged insubordination in recent weeks. Just 10 days earlier, Space Force Colonel Susannah Meyers was fired after sending an email distancing herself from Vice President Vance’s criticism of Denmark’s governance of Greenland. Meyers, who commanded Pituffik Space Base, wrote that Vance’s remarks did not reflect the base’s stance, leading to her removal for a “loss of confidence in her ability to lead".
