Karoline Leavitt rages as Jeff Bezos becomes enemy #1 at the White House after Amazon clanger

Washington D.C.: President Donald Trump's administration has hit out at Jeff Bezos after Amazon announced it will display the cost of tariffs on product prices. The White House Press Secrtary Karoline Leavitt condemned the move as a "hostile and political act", stating Trump’s strong disapproval.
According to reports, Amazon plans to show tariff costs imposed on Chinese goods directly on product listings. Leavitt accused Amazon of partisan behavior, questioning why it didn’t highlight inflation under Biden. She also claimed Amazon aids Chinese propaganda, citing a 2021 partnership with a Chinese state-linked entity to modify book ratings.
Amazon, however, denied that it planned to disclose the cost of US tariffs. The company told Reuters it never considered listing tariffs on its main retail site and nothing was implemented on any company site. “The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products,” a company spokesperson said.

Trump’s tariffs aim to revive US manufacturing but may raise costs for American households. Yale University estimates suggest families could pay up to $4,400 more annually due to higher prices. The policy also targets Chinese e-commerce giants Temu and Shein by closing a duty-free loophole for small packages.
When Leavitt was asked is Bezos is still considered a Trump supporter she brushed off the question but with a lingering simmer that left no doubt that the billionaire was certainly on the naughty step.
Shares of the online retail giant founded by Jeff Bezos dropped more than 2% in premarket trading following the remarks.
