New poll shows Dems never learn from their mistakes, but dark horse candidate emerges

Washington D.C.: A new Yale University Youth Poll has revealed that Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is the least favored potential 2028 Democratic candidate among young voters, with a woeful -17.2 net favorability among respondents aged 18-29. The survey, conducted in April 2025, highlights the contrast between Fetterman and other Democratic figures like Kamala Harris (+60 net favorability) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (+60), who remain highly popular with the youth vote.
Fetterman’s unfavorable standing places him in the same category as ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith (-16.9 among Democrats). Analysts suggest his centrist compromises and collaboration with Republicans have alienated a generation that favors bold progressive policies on issues like immigration and social justice.

Meanwhile, the poll shows Pete Buttigieg gaining traction, while Stephen A. Smith dismissed his polling as proof of the Democratic Party’s “lack of leadership".
The survey also reveals a generational divide: Democrats lead by +6.4 among voters 22-29, but Republicans hold an +11.7 advantage with the youngest (18-21) cohort. In a hypothetical 2028 GOP primary, 50% of young Republicans back JD Vance, signaling a strong MAGA influence.
As for 2028 Democratic frontrunners, AOC leads in favorability, with some analysts, like Nate Silver, calling her the party’s best hope against Trump’s legacy. However, a March Morning Consult poll still showed Kamala Harris as the early favorite.
